The Leaden Boot Marathon Challenge

Our local walking marathon the Leaden Boot challenge is a challenging walk / run over 26.2 miles covering most of the immediate
area around Hulme End and the local villages.
Next years challenge will take place on Sunday 17th May 2015. It starts and finishes in Alstonefield the next village from Hulme End.

This is a 26.2 mile challenge walk with 5800 feet of ascent, starting and finishing in the White Peak village of Alstonefield. This is a tough challenge, possibly one of the hardest marathons in the country and so may not be appropriate for inexperienced walkers. Start at the Memorial Hall in the centre of Alstonefield at 9am (runners-10am) and finish no later than 9pm (12 hours maximum). Hot breakfast rolls are on sale at the start to help you on your way. There are 6 manned checkpoints, spaced approx 4 mile apart. At each checkpoint there will be water, squash, snacks, first aid facilities and communication with the organisers for retirements etc. Home-made pie and cakes are provided for all participants at the finish. Certificates and cloth badges will also be given at the finish for those who have successfully completed the challenge.

Please visit the Leaden Boot web site at www.leadenboot.org.uk for full details and how to apply.

Hulme End is an ideal location to choose to stay for the duration of the challenge, why not stay for a few days and enjoy the
wonderful area and scenery in our local area? Accommodation providers will be able to give you an early breakfast on the day of the walk.
